Kirk W. Horsley
Personal Life:
Kirk is married to Elizabeth "Beth" Ross Horsley. They have three children, Hannah, Hattie and Henry.
Kirk's story, in his own words:
I understand the pain and suffering my clients endure as a result of being in an accident. I was run over in a crosswalk by a driver who was not paying attention. He ran a red light and my head hit the windshield and I was knocked unconscious. I spent months in and out of the hospital and neurologist offices and underwent physical therapy, chiropractic care and massage therapy. I was very fortunate to have survived the accident. The emergency room physician said that two others that morning had been hit and both had died. These accidents are very common in South Florida.
At the time of the accident, I was attending law school at the University of Miami, and I was an intern for a large defense firm. I had hoped that the firm would be able to help me, but as it turned out they were more interested in maintaining their relationships with the insurance companies. Ultimately I had to hire a plaintiff's attorney to represent me. At that point I realized that I was on the wrong side of the law and decided that representing injured claimants was much better than helping insurance companies. Many attorneys can sympathize with their clients, but you can only have empathy if you have also been through a similar situation. Make sure that you find an attorney with experience and one who can relate to your particular situation.
Education:
Kirk has three degrees. He graduated in 1991 from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, with a bachelor of arts in speech communications; in 1995 the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, with a master's in business administration and then in 1999 from the University of Miami School of Law with a juris doctor. He continues his education through courses offered by the South Carolina Bar along with other organizations.
He is admitted to practice law before all State Courts of South Carolina, including the South Carolina Supreme Court.
Work:
Kirk joined Peake & Fowler Law Firm, P.A. in 2004 where he handles personal injury, workers compensation and nursing home abuse cases.
He also has contributed to legal guides for AVVO.
